PROTECT is successor to company called ˝Sigurnost˝, was founded in 1963 in Rijeka, which means that we as a company have more than 45 years of business tradition and experience. We have used our old name up until 1992, until the occurence of transition of social capital, which led to the privatization of the company and changing its name to ˝Protect d.d. Rijeka˝. At first the business operated as a joint-stock company, but following the decision issued by Commercial Court in Rijeka in 1997 it becomes a public company with share capital and is now called ˝Protect – Funčić i dr., j.t.d.˝.
Between 1990 and 1996 there was no specific law in Croatia regarding the issues relating to security services. It was only in 1996 that the Law regarding the protection of persons and property was first passed, and it required that companies which offer security services must be centered around persons and not around capital. Later on, in keeping with the regulations of the Law of private protection, in 2003 the company becomes a company with limited responsibility by the full name of ˝Protect - društvo s ograničenom odgovornošću za zaštitu osoba i imovine˝ (Protect – Corporation with limited responsibility for protection of persons and property), or in shorter form, ˝Protect d.o.o.˝ (Protect Ltd.), based in Rijeka, in Vukovarska 21. The management consists of three members who are represented by the company Director Damir Funčić.

As a company which is oriented toward providing quality and running its business in a socially responsible way, since the very foundation of our country we have been actively involved in promoting security services and solving issues regarding such business. There are three associations in Croatia which are involved in resolving issues in this branch of business:

1. Hrvatski Ceh zaštitara - HCZ (Croatian Security Workers Guilds) was founded in 1992 as an expert association of those individuals who are involved in providing technical protection, physical protection, and detective work in Republic of Croatia. PROTECT is one of the founders of the Security Workers Guild.
2. Udruženje istražnih i zaštitnih djelatnosti (The Association for Services of Investigation and Protection) (Grupacija 74600) with the Croatian Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1997, and the Director of PROTECT Damir Funčić has been President of the Association's Council since 2002.
3. Hrvatska Udruga poslodavaca (Croatian Association of Employers), where PROTECT is one of the members of the executive committee.

PROTECT is a member of all these associations and is very active in all areas involving the resolution of issues in this branch of business, and since 2007 Protect has become involved in CoESS – Confederation of European Security Services.
